A starter site fills your store with a sample catalog so you can see Pawtani working before you add your own products: products with sizes, colours, flavours and pack sizes, categories with photos, journal posts, pages and a menu. Two of the three starters also apply their own design: a style variation, header, footer and homepage.

Starter sites are optional and need WooCommerce.

The starters

Starter Catalog Design it applies
Everyday Pet Store Dogs, cats, birds, small pets and fish: 22 products, including variable, sale, out-of-stock and pack-size products, two size guides and six journal posts None. Keeps the Playful style and the theme’s own header, footer and homepage
Treat Kitchen Treats, chews, bowls, lick mats, jars and gift boxes: 13 products with flavours, pack sizes, colours and sizes, and three journal posts Natural style, the centred header and footer and a treat-shop homepage
Cat Studio Cat trees, wall shelves, scratchers, felt beds, bowls and toys: 13 products with sizes and colours, a bed size guide and three journal posts Modern Pet Studio style, the one-row header and minimal footer and a gallery-like homepage

Sample content is fictional. Every sample product says so in its description. Product pictures are illustrations made for Pawtani, and the photographs are public domain (CC0). Sample descriptions make no health, nutrition or safety claims.

Install a starter

  1. Go to Appearance → Pawtani → Starter sites.
  2. Choose a starter.
  3. Choose the options:
    • Also apply the starter site’s style, header, footer and homepage. Untick it to keep your own design. A header or footer you’ve already customized is kept either way.
    • Use the starter site’s Home page as the front page and its journal for posts.
    • Set the site title and tagline to the starter’s.
    • Move my other products and posts to drafts, so only the sample shows. They’re published again when you remove the starter.
  4. Click Install starter site.

Pages that already exist with the same address (for example a contact page) are used as they are, not replaced.

One at a time

One starter is installed at a time. To try another, remove the installed one first. Import again re-runs the installed starter and adds anything that’s missing.

Remove a starter

On Appearance → Pawtani → Starter sites, click Remove the starter site. It deletes the sample products, images, categories, attributes, size guides, journal posts, pages and menu the starter created. It also puts back the styles, header, footer, homepage, reading settings and site title you had before.

  • Changes you made are kept. A style, header or footer you changed after the import stays as it is.
  • Your own products are never deleted. Products and posts the import moved to drafts are published again.

From the command line

With WP-CLI:

wp pawtani starters
wp pawtani import --starter=kitchen --reading-settings
wp pawtani remove
wp pawtani restore
wp pawtani validate

--starter takes everyday, kitchen or studio. import also takes --skip-design, --site-identity, --reading-settings and --hide-other-products. restore republishes what --hide-other-products moved to drafts. validate checks every starter’s files without importing anything.
