# Import a starter site

A starter site fills your store with a sample catalog so you can see Gemelune working before you add your own pieces: pieces with metal, size and length options, collections, occasions, journal stories, pages and a menu. Four of the five starters can also apply their own design: a style variation, header, footer and homepage.

Starter sites are optional and need WooCommerce.

You can see each one live on the [Gemelune page](https://wpruby.com/theme/gemelune/).

**Sample content is fictional.** Every sample piece is labelled as such, and the photographs are rendered illustrations of fictional pieces.

## Install a starter

1. Go to **Appearance → Gemelune → Starter sites**.
2. Choose a starter.
3. Choose the options:
   - **Also apply the starter's style, header, footer and homepage.** Untick it to keep your own design. A header or footer you've already customized is kept either way.
   - **Use the starter's Home page as the front page and Journal for posts.**
   - **Set the site title and tagline** to the starter's.
   - **Move my other products and posts to drafts**, so only the sample shows. They can be restored.
4. Click **Install starter site**.

## One at a time

One starter is installed at a time. To try another, remove the installed one first.

## Remove a starter

On **Appearance → Gemelune → Starter sites**, click **Remove the starter site**. It deletes the sample pieces, images, collections, journal stories, pages and menu the starter created, and puts back the styles, header, footer, homepage and site title you had before.

- **Changes you made are kept.** Anything you changed after the import stays as it is.
- **Your own products are never deleted.**

If you moved your own products and posts to drafts, **Republish my hidden products and posts** publishes them again.

## From the command line

With WP-CLI:

```
wp gemelune demo starters
wp gemelune demo import --starter=bridal --reading-settings
wp gemelune demo status
wp gemelune demo remove
wp gemelune demo restore
```

`--starter` takes `atelier`, `bridal`, `everyday`, `pearl` or `mens`. `import` also takes `--skip-design`, `--site-identity`, `--reading-settings` and `--hide-other-products`. `restore` republishes what `--hide-other-products` moved to drafts.
